




The Wilderness Skills Institute is a partnership of The Wilderness Society’s Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards program, The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, The United States Forest Service and The National Park Service, and is designed to create opportunities for volunteer Wilderness stewards to learn alongside agency staff creating the next generation of Wilderness Stewards and Professionals.
The 2012 Wilderness Skills Institute is being hosted by the Pisgah National Forest at their Cradle of Forestry facility outside of Brevard, North Carolina and is offered free to agency professionals, members of The Wilderness Society and members of The Appalachian Trail Conservancy. All volunteers that participate in Wilderness Trail Stewardship are encouraged to attend. The membership requirement is because of the financial commitment these organizations are making to the institute.
The Wilderness Skills Institute 2012 includes:Tent camping is being provided free of charge for participants, and there are hotel facilities located in nearby Brevard for those not wishing to camp. Meals are not provided. There are shower facilities on site for those camping.
Registration is limited to a total of forty participants, and some modules will have limited space so early registration is encouraged to reserve your spot. You are not required to attend both weeks.
